How to Prep for Your Engagement Session: What to Wear, Bring & Expect for Photos You’ll Actually Love
Your engagement session should feel like a celebration—not a photoshoot you have to stress over. Whether you’re feeling totally confident or a little unsure in front of the camera, I promise you: we’ll keep it fun, easy, and relaxed.
Here are my go-to tips to help you show up feeling your best and get photos you’re actually excited to hang on your walls.
What to Wear: Two Looks Are Better Than One
I always recommend bringing two outfits—something dressy and something casual. That way, your photos have variety without spending too much time changing.
Here’s a quick cheat sheet for choosing what works:
Stick to neutrals or soft patterns—they’re timeless and flattering
Avoid logos, bright neons, or tiny stripes
Coordinate without matching (think complimentary tones, not uniforms)
If one of you goes dressy, match the energy!
Choose something you feel comfortable moving around in—you’ll be walking, laughing, and maybe even dancing by the end.
Hair, Makeup & Hands
This is a great opportunity to book a hair and makeup trial with your wedding-day artist! Professional glam helps you feel confident on camera, and it's one less thing to think about.
Don’t forget:
Bring touch-up powder or lip gloss for quick refreshes
Painted nails (neutral or subtle tones photograph best!)
If your ring is new—clean it! It will be getting its close-up
What to Bring
A small bag (to keep in the car!) with: snacks, extra makeup, and comfy shoes
Anything meaningful you'd love to include
I’m happy to carry phones, keys, and wallets while we shoot so your pockets stay empty
Bonus tip: bring extra water for the car—trust me, all that fun makes you thirsty!
What to Expect from Me
Engagement sessions are relaxed and personal. I’ll guide you through movement and posing so nothing feels stiff or awkward. At the end of the day, we want photos that share your love story in a way that feels comfortable and true to you.
If there’s something meaningful you want to incorporate—like your dog, a location that matters to you, or even an outfit inspired by your first date—I’m always down to brainstorm.
Let’s Make it Personal
This session is about you two and your story. I’ll bring the camera and the direction—you just bring the love.
