Getting Married at Sunflower Hill Farms: A Photographer’s Guide to This Missouri Wedding Venue
If you're dreaming of a wedding venue that feels romantic, relaxed, and completely picturesque—Sunflower Hill Farms is one of my absolute favorites. Tucked in the rolling hills of Augusta, Missouri, this venue is perfect for couples who want timeless photos, a beautiful atmosphere, and space for both celebration and connection.
Whether you're planning a laid-back outdoor ceremony or a detail-rich reception, here’s why I love photographing weddings at Sunflower Hill—and why you might love getting married there, too.
The Location
Located just outside St. Louis, Sunflower Hill Farms feels like a private getaway without being too far from home. The scenic drive through wine country sets the tone for a peaceful, celebratory weekend—and the venue’s tucked-away charm makes it feel like your own little world for the day.
What Makes It Special
Sunflower Hill Farms is part venue, part working farm, with a mission rooted in sustainability and hospitality. It blends organic elements with elevated design in these ways:
A gorgeous event barn filled with natural light - neutral, light-toned wood
A fully functional catering kitchen
Beautiful outdoor seating and cafe
Stunning breezeway for covered events
Indoor-outdoor flow that’s ideal for spring, summer, and fall weddings
An outdoor ceremony space with stone walkway
Getting ready space with beautiful natural light
The entire property is designed for ease—easy for guests to navigate, easy to customize for your aesthetic, and easy to fall in love with!
A Photographer's Perspective
As a photographer, Sunflower Hill Farms checks all my favorite boxes:
Tons of natural light in the getting-ready and reception spaces
Neutral backdrops that flatter every color palette and dress code
Gorgeous sunset lighting across the surrounding hills
Plenty of space for first looks, portraits, and family formals without crowding
One important note: because of the rolling hills surrounding the property, the sun tends to dip out of sight a little earlier than usual. I always recommend planning your sunset portraits about 45 minutes before the official sunset time to catch that beautiful golden light while it’s still at its best.
Tips for Couples:
Lean into the season: The landscaping at Sunflower Hill is designed to highlight what’s naturally blooming each season. Choosing florals and color palettes that compliment the environment—lush greens and soft neutrals in the summer, or warm earthy tones in the fall—makes your wedding feel even more connected to the space.
Trust the natural beauty: You don’t need to over-decorate here. The farm’s thoughtful landscaping and architectural details provide a beautiful, timeless backdrop all on their own.
