Where To Take Fall Engagement Photos in St. Louis, Missouri

Fall in St. Louis is one of the most photogenic times of the year, making it an ideal season for engagement photos. The changing leaves, golden light, and cooler temps bring a warm, romantic tone to your session, and when you pick the right location, it all clicks. Whether you’re into city views or cozy nature vibes, here are my favorite spots in and around St. Louis to capture your fall engagement photos as a seasoned St. Louis wedding photographer.

1. Forest Park

A classic for a reason. With 1,300 acres of winding trails, golden trees, and reflective water features, Forest Park has no shortage of backdrops. The Grand Basin offers beautiful symmetry, while the art museum lawn at sunset is pure autumn magic. You can get a wide range of looks here in one session, from natural and romantic to more formal and architectural. It’s all walking distance from each other.

2. Lafayette Park

Tucked in a historic neighborhood, Lafayette Park is smaller and quieter than Forest Park, but just as dreamy. The tree-lined paths, cast iron fencing, and charming bridges all come alive in fall. It’s a great choice for couples who want a cozy, storybook feel to their session. It’s absolutely GORGEOUS during the fall, and the older buildings give it so much charm.

3. Tower Grove Park

Tower Grove Park is known for its vibrant fall colors and eclectic charm. The Victorian pavilions and tree-lined walking paths create a dynamic mix of structure and nature. Bonus: The nearby South Grand district is perfect for a quick outfit change and a cozy coffee shop shot if you want to end your session on a warm note!

4. Klondike Park (A bit of a drive—worth it)

Located about 45 minutes from the city, Klondike Park is a hidden gem that stuns in the fall. The white rock bluffs, colorful trees, and lakeside views give you a totally different visual feel. It’s a great option for couples who want a more adventurous, scenic backdrop without going too far! It’s very nature-esque and completely highlights those stunning outdoor fall colors, without being TOO far from civilization.

5. Busch Wildlife Conservation Area

If you’re into the idea of open fields, quiet trails, and golden hour light through the trees, Busch Wildlife is perfect. This spot has more of a rustic, organic vibe—great for laid-back couples or anyone planning a future outdoor wedding. You don’t get the rocks that Klondike Park has, but the fields are absolutely stunning and the tree-lined backdrop shines in golden hour.

Tips for Fall Sessions:

Dress for the season: Neutrals, earth tones, and layered textures photograph beautifully.

Timing matters: Mid-October through early November is usually peak for fall color in the St. Louis area.

Think light: Golden hour (about 1 hour before sunset) makes fall locations even more magical.

Final Thoughts

Fall is one of my favorite times of year for engagement photos. It’s classically stunning and the outdoors do almost all the heavy lifting for a gorgeous backdrop. And the locations are endless!
