What to Wear for Your Summer Engagement Session
Let’s talk about summer engagement session style—because if I had a dollar for every white dress I’ve photographed, I’d have… well, a lot of dollars. Don’t get me wrong, a classic white dress can absolutely work (and photograph beautifully), but it’s not your only option!
If you’re dreaming of a summer engagement session that feels personal, elevated, and effortless, here are my go-to style tips to help you show up camera-ready while letting your personal style shine.
1. Think “Elevated Casual” or “Polished Romantic”
When choosing outfits, I always suggest one dressier look and one that’s more relaxed—but still polished. Think of it like this:
Elevated Casual: Midi dress + leather sandals / Linen button-up + chinos
Polished Romantic: Flowy maxi + delicate jewelry / Suit pants + short-sleeve dress shirt
Fabric matters too—lightweight materials like linen, chiffon, or cotton gauze move beautifully and keep you cool.
2. Match Energy, Not Just Color
One of my biggest tips: coordinate the vibe, not just the color palette. If one of you is in a formal dress, the other shouldn’t be in jeans and a tee.
Aim for outfits that look like you’re headed to the same date night—and say something about your style as a couple.
3. Mind the Fit + Comfort
You’ll be walking, sitting, spinning, and maybe dancing barefoot in a field—so comfort is key. Choose clothes that let you move naturally and don’t require constant adjusting. And if you’re between sizes, go with the one you feel most confident in. It’ll show in the photos.
4. Finish with the Details
Painted nails, cleaned rings, and a quick steam for wrinkles go a long way. If we’re doing multiple locations, bring comfy shoes for walking between stops, and don’t forget water—it’s summer, after all.
Final Thoughts
This session is about you, not your outfit—but when you feel amazing in what you’re wearing, it always shows. Choose looks that feel like you, coordinate intentionally, and I’ll take care of the rest behind the lens.
