How Far in Advance Should You Book Your Engagement Session
So you said “yes”. Now what?
Once you’ve soaked up the magic of your engagement and picked a wedding date, you’ll quickly realize that your calendar is about to fill up fast. If you’re planning to take engagement photos (and trust me, you absolutely should), one of the first questions to ask is:
When should we book our engagement session?
Let’s talk timing, logistics, and how to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime shoot.
My Recommendation: Book 4–6 Months Before Your Wedding
This gives us enough time to plan, shoot, and deliver your gallery without bumping up too close to your wedding. It also gives you space to use your images for save-the-dates, wedding websites, or even your guestbook. If you’re planning a spring or summer wedding, a late fall or early winter engagement session is ideal.
Planning for Seasons (and Allergies!)
St. Louis is beautiful year-round, but every season offers a different vibe. If you’re dreaming of wildflower meadows, spring is your sweet spot. Golden backdrops? Let’s go fall. Not a fan of the heat? Early spring or late fall keeps things cool and cozy.
Also, if you’re particularly sensitive to seasonal allergies, it’s worth thinking ahead—late spring can be heavy with pollen. I’ll always help you choose a date and location that fits your comfort and aesthetic.
Booking Early = More Options
Photographers (especially in the Midwest!) book up fast during golden-hour months. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you’ll have with timing, location, and styling. This also gives us time to plan wardrobe, talk inspiration, and make your session personal.
Bonus: A Trial Run Before the Big Day
Your engagement session isn’t just about beautiful photos—it’s also a chance to connect. You’ll get a feel for how I work, and I’ll learn how you interact together naturally. It’s like a low-stakes warm-up before your wedding, and the trust we build here makes a huge difference on your big day.
Let’s Get You Booked
If you’re recently engaged (congratulations!) or just getting started on your wedding timeline, I’d love to chat about an engagement session that feels like you. Let’s create photos that celebrate this season of your story—and set the tone for the gorgeous wedding to come.
